Savory is an annual herbaceous plant belonging to the Lamiaceae family. It has a bushy habit, narrow lance-shaped leaves covered with a light down and develops pink, white or slightly blue-tinged flowers in summer. It is native to Mediterranean Europe and south-western Asia.

Uses and properties

Its use in cooking is widespread and appreciated, especially in red meat and legume dishes. Like other plants in the same family, it contains carvacrol, which has antimicrobial, antiseptic and antioxidant effects.
