La pianta di Bougainvillea “Don Mario” rossa è un arbusto rampicante originario delle zone tropicali e subtropicali dell’America meridionale. Sarmentosa sempreverde in grado di raggiungere diversi metri di lunghezza, con foglie alternate di forma ellittica-allungata e di colore verde scuro. Sviluppa piccoli fiori di colore bianco, che sbocciano dall’estate all’autunno, raccolti in grappoli e circondati da 3 brattee molto ornamentali, di colore rosso borgogna.
