When young, they are sensitive to intense and prolonged frost. The leaves are ovate, glossy green above, grey-green below, in autumn they take on a beautiful reddish colour. When they fall on the bare branches, the fruits remain ready for picking. The Vanilla persimmon is a medium vigorous plant that produces round, flattened fruits, which have a yellow-orange skin when harvested; when fully ripe they turn bronze in colour. The quality of the flesh is good, with a very sweet flavour. Due to the large production of male flowers, the plant is also used as a pollinator of other persimmon varieties. Ripening time: October.
