Magnolia Soulangeana is a small deciduous tree, up to 6m tall and 4.5m wide, with medium-fast growth; large, velvety leaves,
pale green, appearing in March-April on bare branches, large cup-shaped flowers, white, pink or crimson.
USE: in the garden as a solitary specimen or in a very large pot.
LIVING CONDITIONS: Lives outdoors all year, in sun or partial shade. Protect in winter in the Alpine region.
It dislikes intense heat, to be placed in partial shade in coastal areas.
The soil preference is for fertile, moist, somewhat acidic, and well-drained ground.
WATER: In the garden, abundant for the first year after planting, then moderate in spring-summer and scarce in other seasons. In pots, as soon as the soil has dried out.
FERTILISER: in autumn and in spring after flowering, slow-release type.
NOTE: It is preferable not to prune, but if necessary, it is advisable to do so immediately after flowering, deciduous plant.
