Also known as the wax plant or the porcelain flower, the Hoya Carnosa is a climbing plant with thick, almond-shaped leaves. They are really easy to care for making them a great plant for beginners and, over time, can produce small, star-shaped cream flowers that grow in clusters.

Hoyas are fairly hardy plants and have no special requirements, although they do prefer sandy, well-drained soil; ideally, sand and acidic soil should be mixed in equal parts with a balanced universal soil.Hoyas require special attention especially when it comes to watering: the roots tend to dry out and rot if the amount of water is not right. The ideal growing temperatures are a maximum of 27°C in summer (although they can withstand higher temperatures) and in winter they should not be below 10°C. A good practice for growing the plant with a nice mass of leaves is to fix the stems on a stick, or on wire.

Flowering: Usually occurs from April/May to September/October on plants at least two years old. They produce star-shaped, waxy flowers about 1 cm in diameter with 5 petals.
They form umbrella-shaped clusters of 15-20 long-lasting small flowers (they can last all summer). They vary in colour from pink to yellow and are often very fragrant and rich in nectar.
Origin: warmer areas of south-east Asia, Australia and several Pacific islands.
Habitat: Hoya carnosa grows in tropical and subtropical lowland rainforests and stands high in trees and is semi-epiphytic
