Farfugium Japonicum Giganteum is a plant perennial outdoor plant from Japan and belonging to the Asteraceae family. It is a modestly sized evergreen herbaceous plant that can grow up to 60 centimetres but tends to enlarge; it has erect green stems that support large heart-shaped or round, leathery, dark green leaves: the name Farfugium derives from the whitish substance on the stem that tends to disappear in a short time. This plant flowers in autumn, producing flowers with yellow petals gathered around a golden crown.
Cultivated for ornamental purposes both for its flowering and for its particular foliage, it is not afraid of low temperatures and prefers to be planted in half-shade but can also be placed in total shade; it can be used for borders but also planted in beds or as a single specimen in the ground or in containers. It is a hardy plant that adapts to any type of soil but the use of a good quality universal soil is recommended. and with excellent drainage, while watering should be regular in the warmer periods and reduced in winter, always avoiding waterlogging.
