Dipladenia is a perennial outdoor plant native to Central and South America and belonging to the Apocynaceae family. It is an evergreen plant with a climbing habit that can grow a few metres in height; it has several stems ranging in colour from green to dark brown on which dark green, glossy, leathery, lance-shaped leaves spread. Flowering is abundant and continues from spring to autumn, producing large, funnel-shaped flowers in various colours: pink, red and white. It is a fairly hardy plant that tolerates low temperatures for short periods although it prefers mild climates and is ideal for climbing on gates, trellises or pergolas. It can be grown both in containers and in the ground and is recommended to be placed in sunny locations, but will adapt in areas where half-shade prevails. It needs soil rich in organic substances and well drained with regular watering during the hottest periods, allowing the substrate to dry out, decreasing the frequency in winter and always avoiding any form of water stagnation.
