The Dipladenia is a perennial outdoor plant native to Central and South America, belonging to the Apocynaceae family. It is an evergreen plant with a climbing habit that can grow to several metres in height; it has various stems ranging in shade from green to dark brown, upon which lanceolate leaves, dark green, glossy, and leathery in texture, spread. The flowering is abundant and continuous from spring to autumn, producing generously sized, funnel-shaped flowers in various colours: pink, red, and white. It is a fairly hardy plant that tolerates low temperatures for short periods, although it prefers mild climates, making it ideal for climbing on fences, trellises, or pergolas. It can be grown both in containers and in the ground, and it is recommended to place it in sunny locations, but it adapts to areas where partial shade is prevalent. It requires soil rich in organic matter and well-drained, with regular watering during the warmer periods, allowing the substrate to dry out, decreasing the frequency in winter, and always avoiding any form of waterlogging. The plants do not flower in winter.
