L’albero dell’ amarena di Castelnuovo (Prunus ceranus) è parente stretto del ciliegio ed è noto anche come visciolo o amarasco. Originario dell’Asia Minore, nella zona compresa tra il Mar Nero e il Mar Caspio, produci frutti dal sapore agrodolce ma comunque molto gustosi, che rappresentano un vero e proprio toccasana per la nostra salute. L’amarena presenta una maggiore concentrazione di sostanze antiaging come bioflavonoidi e antociani rispetto alla sua “parente” più prossima, la ciliegia, i quali, oltre a conferirle l’acceso colore rosso, combattono e prevengono le infiammazioni, contrastando le flaccidità, molto usata nei dolci.
