L’albicocco Cafona è una varietà antica, vigorosa e molto rustica, originaria della Campania ma diffusa nel Centro Italia, nota per l’alta produttività e adattabilità. Produce frutti medio-piccoli, rotondi, con buccia giallo-arancio e polpa soda, dolce e aromatica. Matura tra la terza decade di giugno e i primi di luglio.
Ecco i dettagli principali dell’albicocco Cafona:
Albero: Molto vigoroso, a portamento aperto/intermedio, autofertile (non necessita di impollinatori).
Frutto: Medie/piccole dimensioni, forma rotondo-ovata. Buccia giallo chiaro con sfumature rosse al sole.
Polpa: Giallo-arancio, di buona consistenza, succosa e di sapore dolce, ottima per il consumo fresco, marmellate e sciroppate.
Maturazione: Generalmente tra fine giugno e inizio luglio.
Coltivazione: Rustico, sopporta bene il freddo, ma i frutti temono le gelate tardive, a causa della fioritura precoce. Predilige posizioni soleggiate.

It is the most widespread citron cultivar in southern Italy.
Small, open-formed, expansive plant with moderately upright, dense, very spindly branches.
Has large, oblong leaves. Purple-red shoots and flowers, mainly arranged in clusters. The large, elongated ovate-ellipsoid shaped fruit has an apex with a wide umbo. Its peel, lemon-yellow when ripe, thick, smooth and ribbed, is used for the production of candied fruit. The pulp is scanty, almost dry, with an acid lemon-like flavour.
