Stupenda esponente del genere Agave, a lento accrescimento, portamento cespitoso ed origini messicane: a pieno sviluppo può raggiungere una larghezza di 50 cm ed un’altezza leggermente inferiore. Le foglie, spesse e carnose, strette ed acuminate, sono numerose e disposte a formare una folta rosetta; presentano, ben in risalto con il loro bellissimo colore glauco, tanto sui margini quanto all’apice, diversi vistosi aculei nerastri, da cui il termine di specie di questa agave. .L’imprevedibile fioritura è davvero appariscente e probabilmente da questa caratteristica nascerebbe il nome del genere “Agave” che deriverebbe appunto da un termine greco che significa “nobile o illustre”: dal cuore delle foglie improvvisamente spunta e cresce a vista d’occhio un fusto di 2 metri circa che presenta in alto numerosi fiori giallo-verdastri, cui seguono, dopo l’impollinazione, frutti ricolmi di semi neri squamiformi o talvolta piccole plantule che ,staccate dal vento, al suolo sono in grado di radicare e creare ampie nuove colonie di questa agave.

Flowering: Usually occurs from April/May to September/October on plants at least two years old. They produce star-shaped, waxy flowers about 1 cm in diameter with 5 petals.
They form umbrella-shaped clusters of 15-20 long-lasting small flowers (they can last all summer). They vary in colour from pink to yellow and are often very fragrant and rich in nectar.
